Don’t want to leave Fido at home while you enjoy your Maine vacation? We understand that your dog is part of your family too.

Some Dogs Allowed

A number of our rental homes allow dogs. This will be indicated in the Property Details under each property on our website. If it says, “No,” the homeowners mean it. If it says, “Ask,” owner’s approval will vary (depending on the size and/or age of the dog, for example). And generally, those homeowners who allow dogs won’t approve more than one or two. So if you’re traveling with a pack, you may need to make other arrangements!

Pet Fees

Of course your dog is a well-behaved angel, but things happen. Our homeowners who allow dogs require an additional, non-refundable pet fee of $150.00 per dog on top of a refundable security deposit. In addition, most will expect you to crate your dog when it’s left behind while you’re off enjoying one of our wonderful local restaurants.

Out and About with Your Dog

You and your dog have many opportunities to explore and enjoy the beautiful Maine landscape. Dogs are allowed on the trails of Camden Hills State Park–though you’ll want to be sure to abide by their strict on-leash policy. Several–but not all–area nature preserves allow dogs on leash, as well; be sure to check before visiting so you and Fido aren’t disappointed. And according to the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, dogs (on leash) are allowed on several of the local daysailers and power boats for their short-term outings.

The Jean H. Kislak Community Dog Park, just off Route 1 on Camden Street in Rockport, provides separate areas for large and small dogs to play. According to Maine law, anyone who uses a dog park, or any public recreational area, does so at their own risk. Although your dog can romp freely there, it’s still your responsibility to supervise it. Thomaston and Belfast, each about 35 minutes from Camden, also offer dog parks.

From May through September, most town-owned and area state park beaches (such as Laite Beach in Camden or Birch Point State Park in Owls Head) limit the hours that dogs may visit to 6:00 – 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Some–but not all–parks have doggy bag dispensers for your dog’s waste, so please be prepared to bring your own at all times.

Your dog doesn’t have to miss out on vacation shopping, either. Loyal Biscuit, a pet supply boutique, has shops in Rockland, Belfast, and right next door to our office here on Route One in Rockport!

  • Due to Covid-19 our office is not open to the public. We are available by phone Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. until further notice.

Please feel free to contact us directly with any questions you might have; we enjoy speaking with people to help them find the property which best meets their needs.
